| Urasoe Castle - The castle was build in the latter part of the 13th century and was the main castle of Chuzan until Sho Hashi moved the kingdom to Shuri. The castle's three great kings - Shunten, Eiso, and Satto- each played an important role in Okinawa's history. It was Satto, however, who reached greatness when he sent the first Ryukyu trade envoy to China in 1379, starting a relationship that lasted for five centuries. At the southern end of the castle archaeologists have discovered evidence of what appears to be a moat, a very unique feature for Okinawan Castle. |
